Sustainable Tourism Accreditation Programs
As part of its commitment to implementing the Queensland Ecotourism Plan
2003-2008, Tourism Queensland supports the following accreditation programs
and their role in promoting sustainable best practice for the broader
tourism industry.
EcoCertification Program (formerly NEAP)
Developed by the Australian tourism industry,
EcoCertification is used to identify genuine ecotourism and nature-tourism
operators. It provides industry, protected area managers and consumers with
an assurance that certified product is committed to providing visitors with
a quality experience. Three types of products may be certified under
EcoCertification with eligibility based upon a number of sustainability
principles.
The EcoGuide Australia Certification Program is a flagship program of
Ecotourism Australia. It is an industry driven program for Nature and
Ecotour Guides. The EcoGuide Australia program provides a credential,
endorsing the recipient as a guide who will deliver an authentic,
environmentally responsible, and professional Ecotourism experience.
The 2007 New Generation EcoGuide Program now provides Guides
with a cost effective and convenient advantage in being able to attain
both EcoGuide and the national Guides of Australia (GOA)

Green Globe
Green Globe is a global certification program that
symbolises better business and sustainable environments to consumers,
companies and communities. The Green Globe program asks tourism businesses
and destinations to make a commitment to improving their environmental
performance across a range of indicators. It provides consumers with an
assurance that Green Globe companies are committed to a better travel and
tourism future.

Savannah Guides
Savannah Guides is a network of professional tour guides
with a collective indepth knowledge of the natural and cultural assets of
the tropical savannahs of northern Australia. Savannah Guides Sites and
Stations have been developed by privately and publicly owned enterprises
and feature nature and/or culture based interpretive activities, while
mobile Savannah Guides Operators and Master Operators conduct roving tours
within and through the region. All Savannah Guides enterprises must
incorporate natural or cultural interpretive activities as a prominent part
of their business and demonstrate a commitment to conservation values.
